An Update From Phil, Our CEO

 

It is quite clear that we are working and living in quite extraordinary times, nothing that we could have imagined in our wildest dreams.

Over the last few weeks I have been working tirelessly with my team to keep you up to speed with the developments and challenges this virus has placed upon us all.

Working in the travel industry has been my life, it has been my family's life for 61 years and one thing is for certain, we intend to see this through and come out stronger on the other side.

Before I address the important issue of your affected holiday & travel arrangements, I want to thank you from the heart for being kind to my team and for your patience and understanding. None of this is their fault but they are literally working every hour God sends to look after you and all our other affected clients.

As a family business, we do not hide behind emails or impersonal messages, we speak to you directly, we engage with you and we also share your pain. 

I cannot imagine how this is also affecting you and your families but we are here to try and help wherever possible. This goes way beyond business, this is personal and having spoken with my team I know that I have their full support in telling you that we are here for you.

I do not know what we can do, but if we can help in any capacity - please do not be afraid to ask us, even if it’s just to have a chat if you are living alone or are self isolated alone. 

Now we do have to get down to the business end and that is your holiday, how it has been affected and what we can do to help you secure a new well earned break away either later this year or into 2021.

You may have read or heard on the news channels that the EU has applied for a change in the PTD (Package Travel Directive) to allow tour operators to issue vouchers to be redeemed against a new holiday.

The government’s across Europe are supporting this because of the simple reason, the world relies on Global Tourism. If we do not travel, if we do not have our holidays booked, then it will not only be the travel industry that fails, it will be the jobs of millions of people who rely on travel. That can be for example, caterers, cleaners, car parks, shops, then of course travel businesses, airlines and ourselves, your personal travel agents.

Now we do realise that some of our valued guests may have been affected more severely than others and are not in a position to take advantage of a voucher. We are therefore asking those whose jobs have been affected for example - to provide us with written evidence and we will then make representation to the tour operator on your behalf.

What was interesting was “Money Saving Expert” Martin Lewis on television asking the consumers (where a tour operator has adopted this policy), to take the vouchers and re book their holidays to keep the travel industry alive and kicking. It is clear that there is a wind of change blowing and that we are all starting to pull together as a country and support each other.

As the gaffer, I take full responsibility for my business and my team. I trust them to look after you in the best way they possibly can. They are only human and like you, have concerns and worries and to put into perspective, they are almost working as counsellors to hundreds of our clients each week.

So please BE KIND, STAY SAFE and where possible, help us to keep the country moving and travelling in the future months and years ahead.
